Rochester Optical was established in Rochester, New York in 1932. The owner, at the time, saw a growing need for protective tactical eyewear for the Armed Forces, aircraft pilots, and patrolmen. Later, Rochester Optical became one of the country's few military prescription glasses frame manufacturers and supplied both the Army and the Air Force with combat-ready ballistic eyewear for soldiers.

  • 1932: Rochester Optical Founded

    Rochester Optical was established in Rochester, New York in 1932. The owner, at the time, saw a growing need for protective tactical eyewear for the Armed Forces, aircraft pilots, and patrolmen.

    1942 Rochester Optical is awarded a Military contract to support the war effort in Europe.

  • 1990-1995 Optical Lab Launches

    Patrick Ho acquires Rochester Optical and decides to restore it to its former glory. He began a concerted effort to rebuild and diversify the business. In 1995 a full-service optical fabrication lab was established.

  • 2014: Google Glass

    Rochester Optical partnered with Google, releasing the 1st prescription lenses and frames for Google Glass TM smart glasses. Rochester Optical continues to launch an exclusive collection of Smart Glass prescription inserts, featuring RX inserts tailored for XREAL, LENOVO, and Magic Leap ML2 Glasses.

  • 2021: MaskOptix Patent

    Our Patented Eyeglasses bring a low profile design, custom dimensions, flexible ear hooks, all metal construction, and low profile temples to keep your mask's seal, yet light and thin enough to go unnoticed inside the mask, while resting on the nose.

  • 2022: State of Art Lab Built

    The company invests more than 10 million dollars for a brand-new state-of-the-art, clean, green, and fully automated digitally controlled optical production line. Our Lab exemplifies our commitment to environmental stewardship. Our initiatives include achieving zero-carbon emissions.
